Your Mother
Should Know was first recorded twice in Chappell Recording
Studios and then later in Abbey Road Studios. It was also
the last Beatles recording session where their manager Brian
Epstein was present. He popped into Chappel Studios on August
23 when the song was being recorded. Epstein died four days
later of an accidental overdose of medical drugs at the
age of 32. Some claim it was suicide.
Your Mother
Should Know was similar to When
I'm Sixty Four in the sense that the song was likely
to have been inspired by Paul's dad, Jim McCartney, who
had been a musician in the 1920s and 30s. The song showed
Paul McCartney's ability to write songs that were both nostalgic
and at the same time almost timeless. The song could have
fitted in on a musical or on a 1920 or 30s record, but it
also fitted in nicely among all the psychedelia on Magical
Mystery Tour.
