Paul has said that he wrote You Never Give Me Your Money, the beautiful three-part medley which links the B-side of the Abbey Road album so nicely together, with businessman Allen Klein in mind. At this point, Allen Klein had taken over as as The Beatles' financial manager, despite the fact that McCartney rather wanted his girlfriend Linda's father and lawyer Lee Eastman to be in charge. However, something had to be done. Apple, the Beatles' own corporation, which also included their own record company Apple Records, was in a fincancial mess.

The Beatles were selling millions of records worldwide, but the group felt they never saw the actual money.

"We get bits of paper saying how much is earned and what this and that is but we never actually get it in pounds, shillings and pence," said George Harrison, who had already witten a song on a similar topic; Taxman.

"We've all got a big house and a car and an office but to actually get the money we've earned seems impossible," he said.

You Never Give Me Your Money

(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)

You never give me your money
you only give me you funny paper
And in the middle of negotiation you break down

I never give you my number
I only give you my situation
And in the middle of investigation I break down

Out of college money spent
See no future, pay no rent
All the money's gone, nowhere to go
Any jobber got the sack
Monday morning turning back
Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go

But oh, that magic feeling
Nowhere to go
Oh, that magic feeling
nowhere to go
nowhere to go
Ah, Ooo, Ah, Ooo, Ah

One sweet dream
Pick up the bags and get in the limousine
Soon we'll be away from here
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away
One sweet dream
Came true today
Came true today
Came true today

One two three four five six seven
All good children go to heaven
