Paul's
Two Of Us started life under the name On Our Way home, and
is really about Paul and his girlfriend Linda Eastman (later
McCartney). The two of them used to drive out to random
places on the countryside to "get lost", a game
that Linda had often played with her father as a child.
Hence the reference to "Sunday driving".
Some have
speculated if the song is also about John and Paul, as the
song has several references to the teenage days Liverpool
("burning matches", "lifting latches").
Paul later
gave this song to New York trio Mortimer, but it was never
released by them.
Two Of Us
(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)
Two of us riding nowhere
spending someone's hard earned pay
You and me Sunday driving
Not arriving on our way back home
We're on our way back home
We're on our way home
We're going home
Two of
us sending postcards
writing letters on my wall
You and me burning matches
lifting latches on our way back home
We're on our way back home
We're on our way home
We're going home
You and
I have memories
longer that that road
that stretches out ahead
Two of
us wearing raincoats
standing solo in the sun
You and me chasing paper
getting nowhere on our way back home
We're on our way back home
We're on our way home
We're going home
You and
I have memories
longer that that road
that stretches out ahead
Two of
us wearing raincoats
standing solo in the sun
You and me chasing paper
getting nowhere on our way back home
We're on our way back home
We're on our way home
We're going home
We're going home
