The Beatles
were spreading the word of love at least a year and a half
before Flower Power and The Summer of Love. Is this early
signs of All
You Need is Love?
The Word
is mostly Lennon's work. He later told Playboy:
"It's
the marijuana period. It's the love and peace thing. The
word is 'love', right?"
McCartney
later said that The Word was an attempt to write a song
with only ONE chord, but this idea was abandoned as the
song developed.
The Word
was completed in three takes, with Paul on piano and producer
George Martin on the harmonium, and Indian style pump organ
that the Beatles also used on many other songs, including
We
Can Work It Out.
The Word
(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)
Say the word and youll be free
Say the word and be like me
Say the word Im thinking of
Have you heard the word is love
Its so fine, its sunshine
Its the word love
In the beginning I misunderstood
But now Ive got it the word is good
Say the word and youll be free
Say the word and be like me
Say the word Im thinking of
Have you heard the word is love
Its so fine, its sunshine
Its the word love
Everywhere I go I hear it said
In the good and the bad books that I have read
Say the word and youll be free
Say the word and be like me
Say the word Im thinking of
Have you heard the word is love
Its so fine, its sunshine
Its the word love
Now that I know what I feel must be right
I mean to show evrybody the light
Give the word a chance to say
That the word is just the way
Its the word Im thinking of
And the only word is love
Its so fine its sunshine
Its the word love
Say the word love
Say the word love
Say the word love
Say the word love
