Please
Please Me The Beatles 1962-1966 (Red Album)
Anthology 1
John Lennon
was inspired by Roy Orbison's Only The Lonely when he wrote
this song. It was originally written as a ballad, but producer
George Martin thought the tempo was too slow and asked the
Beatles to play it faster.
The final
result sounded more like the Everly Brothers than Roy Orbison though.
Session drummer Alan White said in an interview with
music magazine Spin in 1985 that he played the drums on
the recording. It is however possible that White plays on
the version of the song that was released on Anthology 1,
but that Ringo plays on the official single (mono) and LP
(stereo) versions.
Please
Please Me was released on January 11 1963 and made it to
no 1 on the UK charts. It was released in the USA in February
1963, but did not conquer the charts before a year later
when it went to no 3.

Last night
I said these words to my girl
I know you never even try, girl
C'mon...
Please please me, whoa yeah, like I please you
You don't
need me to show the way, love
Why do I always have to say "love"
C'mon...
Please please me, whoa yeah, like I please you
I don't
wanna sound complainin'
But you know there's always rain in my heart (in my heart)
I do all the pleasin' with you, it's so hard to reason
With you, whoah yeah, why do you make me blue
Last night
I said these words to my girl
I know you never even try, girl
C'mon...
Please please me, whoa yeah, like I please you
