Money
(That’s What I Want) first became a hit with Berry
Gordy in 1960. The Beatles had performed the song live for
a number of years before they decided to record it (it was
also one of the songs they performed when the auditioned
for Decca records January 1 1962). The Rolling Stones also
recorded a version of this song, just a few months after
the Beatles had recorded it.
A live
version of the song, performed in Stockholm, Sweden in October
1963, is available on Anthology 1.
Money
was one of John Lennon’s favourite songs, and he performed
it live with his Plastic Ono Band in Toronto on September
13, 1969. This version is available on the album Live Peace
in Toronto 1969.
