John later said I Wanna Be Your Man was a throwaway song, and that’s why he gave it to The Rollong Stones.

Paul McCartney originally wrote the song with Ringo in mind, but soon abandoned it. Shortly after, in September 10 1963, McCartney and Lennon bumped into Rolling Stones manager Andrew Oldham in Jermyn street, London. Oldham told them that Rolling Stones were looking for new, original songs. At this point, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards had not started writing songs together.

McCartney told Oldham about the unfinished I Wanna Be Your Man, and shortly after they were off to studio 51 in Great Newport Street where the Rolling Stones were rehearsing. The Stones liked the song, but since it was still incomplete, Lennon and McCartney had to finnsih it there and then. Or so the story goes...

It is nevertheless true that I Wanna Be Your Man, as performed by the Rolling Stones, went to number 12 on the UK charts. The Beatles recorded it soon after, with Ringo Starr singing the lead vocal.
