The Beatles,
particularly Lennon and Harrison, had by February 1964 taken
a keen interest in Bob Dylan, who had just released the
record The Freewheelin Bob Dylan. Those who pay attention
to the way Lennon plays the harmonica on I Should Have Known
Better will notice a big difference compared with the harmonica
on Love Me
Do, for example. Lennons new style of playing
the way he blows in and out was similar to
Dylan's way of playing the instrument.
It took
22 takes before the Beatles were satisfied with I Should
Have Known Better, allegedly because Lennon couldnt
stop laughing.
I Should
Have Known Better was released on the B-side of the single
A Hard
Days Night, which was a number 1 hit in the US
and in the UK.
I Should Have Known Better
(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)
I should
have known better with a girl like you
That I would love everything that you do
And I do, hey hey hey, and I do
Whoa,
whoa, I
never realized what I kiss could be
this could only happen to me
Can't you see, can't you see
That when
I tell you that I love you, oh
You're gonna say you love me too, hoo, hoo, hoo, oh
And when I ask you to be mine
You're gonna say you love me too
So, oh
I never realized what I kiss could be
this could only happen to me
Can't you see, can't you see
That when
I tell you that I love you, oh
You're gonna say you love me too, hoo, hoo, hoo, oh
And when I ask you to be mine
You're gonna say you love me too
Whoa whoa
I never realized what I kiss could be
this could only happen to me
Can't you see, can't you see
That when
I tell you that I love you, oh
You're gonna say you love me too, hoo, hoo, hoo, oh
And when I ask you to be mine
You're gonna say you love me too
You love me too
you love me too
