The Beatles
filmed the promotional movie for the Lady Madonna-single
at Abbey Road, since the idea was to show them at work in
the studio. On the same day, John showed Paul a half-sketched
idea of a song he called Hey Bullfrog. John and Paul then
sat down and finished the song. The end result was an exciting
rock tune, not completely unlike Lady
Madonna. Fortunately though, the Beatles decided to
change the title from Hey Bullfrog to Hey Bulldog.
Hey Bulldog
was recoded on a four track recorder, and completed in a
10 hour session. The barking and shouting on the fade out
of the song is the sound of Beatles having fun.
Hey Bulldog
marks the end of Lennon's LSD-fuelled psychedelic era, and
the beginning for the gradual return to his musical roots
of rock 'n' roll.
It was
also the first recording where Yoko Ono was present in the
studio.
Hey Bulldog
(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)
Sheep dog
standing in the rain
Bullfrog doing it again
Some kind of happiness is
measured out in miles
What make you think you're
something special when you smile
Childlike
no one understands
Jack knife in your sweaty hands
Some kind of innocence is
measured out in years
You don't know what it's like
to listen to you fears
You can
talk to me
You can talk to me
You can talk to me
If you're lonely, you can talk to me
Big man
walking in the park
Wigwam frightened of the dark
Some kind of solitude is
measured out in you
You think you know but you haven't got a clue
You can
talk to me
You can talk to me
You can talk to me
If you're lonely, you can talk to me
