Paul McCartney's Good Day Sunshine was slightly inspired
by Lovin' Spoonfuls Daydream, which was top 20 hit in the
UK in the summer of 1966. That particular summer was in
fact a very warm one, at least in the UK, and the nice weather
may also have inspired songs such as the Kink's Sunny Afternoon
and Donovan's Sunshine Superman.
Good Day
Sunshine is a lovely, optimistic tune, and it's said to
be one of composer Leonard Bernstein's favourites.
Producer
George Martin added a honky-tonk piano solo recorded at
slow speed (56 cycles per second) for the song's middle
eight.
Paul McCartney
recorded a live version of Good Day Sunshine in 1989. It's
available on the CD-single Birthday from 1990.
Good Day Sunshine
(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)
Good day
sunshine, good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
I need to laugh, and when the sun is out
Ive got something I can laugh about
I feel good in a special way
Im in love, and its sunny day
Good day sunshine, good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
We take a walk, the sun is shining down
Burns my feet as they touch the ground
Good day sunshine, good day sunshine
Good day sunshine.
And then
we lie beneath a shady tree
I love her and shes loving me
She feels good, she knows shes looking fine
Im so proud to know that she is mine
Good day sunshine, good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine, good day sunshine
