Eight Days A Week was originally Paul McCarntney's idea, but the song was nowhere near completed when the Beatles first started to record it. It was in fact the first time that Beatles took an unfinnished idea into the studio and experimented with different ways of recording it. It is possible that this is the first ever pop song where the intro fades in, although this was not the original plan.

McCartney got the idea to the title after a conversation with a taxi driver who, when Paul asked if he had been busy, said he had been working eight days a week . It was however Lennon who got to sing the lead vocal, although he made it clear in later interviews that the song was never one of his favourites.

Eight Days A Week was never released as a single in the UK, but it topped the charts in the US in February and March 1965.

Eight Days A Week

(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)

Ooo I need your love, babe
guess you know it's true
Hope you need my love babe
just like I need you

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
I ain't got nothing but love, babe
Eight days a week

Love you every day, girl
always on my mind
One think I can say, girl
love you all the time

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
I ain't got nothing but love, girl
Eight days a week

Eight days a week
I love you
Eight days a week
is not enough to show I care

Ooo I need your love, babe
guess you know it's true
Hope you need my love babe
just like I need you

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
I ain't got nothing but love, babe
Eight days a week

Love you every day, girl
always on my mind
One think I can say girl
love you all the time

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
I ain't got nothing but love, babe
