According
to Lennon, Any Time At All was a rewrite of It
Won’t Be Long. But although the chord progressions
may have similarities, the two songs are not the same. (Other
Beatles 'rewrites' supposedly include Yes
It Is / This
Boy, Paperback
Writer / Day Tripper
and Get Back / Lady
Madonna.
Lennon
had not completed the lyrics to Any Time At All by the time
the Beatles started recording it, so McCartney’s piano
solo was thrown in to cover up for missing words.
