Surprisingly,
Paul McCartney only wrote three songs for the album A Hard
Days Night, and one of them was the tender ballad
And I Love Her (the other two songs were Things
We Said Today and Cant
Buy Me Love). And I Love Her may be about his girlfriend
at the time, Jane Asher, although McCartney has said that
the song wasnt written for anyone in particular. Lennon
later called the song Pauls first Yesterday.
And I
Love Her is a fine McCartney ballad, backed up by some sophisticated
acoustic guitar playing from Lennon and Harrison.
On an
earlier recording of the song, which is included on Anthology
1, Harrison plays a 12-string Rickenbacker instead of the
acoustic, and Ringo plays the drums instead of the bongos.
I give her
all my love
That's all I do
And if you saw my love
You'd love her too
I love her
She gives
me everything
And tenderly
The kiss my lover brings
She brings to me
And I love her
A love
like ours
Could never die
As long as I
Have you near me
Bright
are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
will never die
And I love her
Bright
are the stars that shine
Dark is the sky
I know this love of mine
will never die
And I love her, ooh
