Paul McCartney has told at least two conflicting stories about how he wrote All My Loving: In the 1960s he said that he wrote the song one morning while shaving. In an interview with Playboy in 1984, however, McCartney said he wrote the lyrics to the song in a tour bus and that he composed the melody on a piano during a sound check - both in May 1963. Even John Lennon once said that he had written it.

The Beatles performed All My Loving at the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9 1964 in front of 73 million TV viewers.

All My Loving was also released as an EP, reaching number 13 on the singles chart in the UK in February 1964.

All My Loving
(John Lennon/Paul McCartney)

Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you
Tomorrow I’ll miss you
Remember I’ll always be true
And then while I’m away
I’ll write home ev’ry day
And I’ll send all my loving to you

I’ll pretend that I’m kissing
The lips I am missing
And hope that my dreams will come true
And then while I’m away
I’ll write home ev’ry day
And I’ll send all my loving to you

All my loving I will send to you
All my loving, darling I’ll be true
